Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams is out until at least next week after receiving multiple injections in both of his ankles. He's ruled out for Wednesday against the Golden State Warriors and could miss more time depending on how his ankle responds to the treatment.
The Brooklyn Nets released a statement on Wednesday:
"Following an MRI on Monday, January 6, Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle. Williams was treated with a cortisone shot in the ankle joint, as well as platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections into the lateral ligaments of the ankle.
"In addition, Williams received a PRP injection into his right ankle and a cortisone injection into his right ankle joint to relieve inflammation. Williams, who will miss Wednesday's game versus Golden State, is currently in a walking boot and will be re-evaluated at the end of the week."
Williams, who's averaging 13.6 points and 6.9 assists per game, is dealing with his third ankle sprain of the season. He sprained his left ankle on Nov. 15 against Phoenix and missed the next two games; he returned on Nov. 20 against Charlotte, sprained it again and missed the next nine games, according to ESPN.
He struggled with ankle issues last season and was forced to miss games because of inflammation in both ankles. Wednesday will be the second straight game he's missed.
His absence comes just as things were beginning to look up for the Nets, who've won three straight games. Williams averaged 25 points on 63 percent shooting in his last two games before being sidelined for Monday's game against Atlanta because of the sprained ankle.
