The Spartans' only loss of the season came on Dec. 4 against North Carolina, 79-65. Michigan State (13-1) bounced back with a six-game winning streak, including a 73-56 win on Saturday against Indiana.
Part of Michigan State's success is due to senior guard Keith Appling, who's averaging 15.6 points and 4.6 assists per game. One concern for Spartans coach Tom Izzo is that Appling doesn't try to out play Buckeyes guard Aaron Craft, ESPN reports.
"Sometimes Keith will do that," Izzo said, via ESPN. "It gets to be where those two get talked about and that's not good for Keith. He's got to just play his game. They're two different kinds of players, both very good defensively. But Keith can do some other things - scoring the ball - that I think Craft can't do. And Craft can do some things that Keith doesn't do as well."
Ohio State coach Thad Matta believes one key for beating No. 5 Michigan State is limiting Appling's production on the court.
"You know he's going to make great plays," said Matta. "It's trying to disrupt his rhythm, if that's possible."
Like Appling is for his team, Craft is a big reason the Buckeyes are undefeated with a 15-0 record. Craft is averaging 9.3 points, 4.9 assists and a team-high 2.5 steals per game.
While Spartans sophomore guard Gary Harris leads his team in scoring with 18.2 points per game, the Buckeyes' top scorer is junior forward LaQuinton Ross, who's averaging 13.6 points per game.
