Daisy Coleman Rape Case: Teen In Center Of Maryville, MO. Case Attempts Suicide After Being 'Attacked' On Twitter

Daisy Coleman, a teen whose Maryville, Mo. rape case has made her the center of national headlines, has been hospitalized after attempting suicide.

Coleman's mother, Melinda, told FOX 4 News her daughter attended a party on Saturday night and was "attacked" on Twitter for being there. Coleman tried to take her own life on Sunday evening, but is in stable condition at a children's psychiatric hospital in Kansas City since Monday night.

Coleman was 14-years-old when she snuck out of her home to attend a party in 2012. At the party, Coleman claimed she was raped by then 17-year-old football star Matthew Barnett.

The alleged victim has talked openly about her struggles through the blog on XOJane.com. In an October 2013 post, Coleman wrote about how the alleged crime has affected her psyche:

"Why would I even want to believe in a God? Why would a God even allow this to happen? I lost all faith in religion and humanity. I saw myself as ugly, inside and out. If I was this ugly on the inside, then why shouldn't everyone see the ugly I saw? I burned and carved the ugly I saw into my arms, wrists, legs and anywhere I could find room. On Twitter and Facebook, I was called a skank and a liar and people encouraged me to kill myself. Twice, I did try to take my own life."

Since speaking out about her rape, Coleman has been reportedly terrorized to the point where her Maryville home was burned down once their family decided it would be best to move out of the town. Coleman's mother spoke out on her Facebook account about her daughter's attempted suicide.

"Where is anonymous now? My daughter has been terrorized to the point she tried to kill herself last night," Melinda wrote. "She may never be ok. Where are you and your super hacking skills and internet help now.......we really need them."
