Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert and Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic are both respected guards on their respective teams. But both are also being linked to numerous trade rumors for the past few months.
Earlier reports have said the Shumpert was placed by the Cavs to the trading block after his disappointing performance last season. And now that J.R. Smith already signed a four-year $57 million contract with the Cavs, it makes Shumpert more dispensable for the team.
As for Dragic, the Heat would like to unload his big paycheck in order to acquire high-caliber players that will be free agents after this season. Players like Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul are some of the notable players that the Heat might try to steal from their teams.
And now, the Cavs and Heat seem to be on the trading table and discussing the possible one-on-one swap between Shumpert and Dragic according to Gospel Herald. With Heat's objective is to be younger while the Cavs wants a veteran backup for Kyrie Irving this could be the appropriate deal for both teams as stated in the report.
The Heat would give away the 30-year old Dragic to the Cavs while they will acquire the 26-year old Shumpert in return and this satisfies the needs of both teams. Dragic will easily adjust to Cavs system while Shumpert will take the defense of Heat to the next level as the report further narrated. But the Heat must move quickly as the Minnesota Timberwolves are targeting Shumpert also.
According to Ecumenical News, the Timberwolves are showing great interest to obtain Shumpert from the Cavs. Though the Timberwolves is fine on the offensive end but they need to enhance and be better on their defense and that's what Shumpert can provide as per stated in the report.
Although it never indicates in the report who will be the trade piece that the Timberwolves would give up, many say that it could be Ricky Rubio that will be offered to the Cavs. Rubio is also been on the many trade rumors after the Timberwolves drafted Khris Dunn who could be his replacement.
Will the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat agree to swap Iman Shumpert and Goran Dragic?
