Sprint may not have been under the spotlight for some time, but the carrier has an incredible "Framily Plan" offer that saves up to $30 on a subscriber's monthly bill.
The 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show is not only showcasing some of the latest techs, but it is serving as a fertile venue for the wireless industry to stir up the market. While AT&T and T-Mobile have voiced out their rivalry publicly, Sprint and Verizon have not been very forthcoming. The silence does not mean the carriers are not cooking up new ideas. Sprint announced a new "Framily Plan," which reduces the wireless bill by connecting friends, family and acquaintances into one network.
The Sprint Framily Plan is available for new and existing customers and does not merge the bills into one or lets users in the network to share a pool of data. The new plan reduces the monthly wireless bill with each member joining the network's new initiative. The plan, announced Tuesday, lets up to 10 new or existing Sprint customers join as one in a single network, without compromising their individual plans.
"The Sprint Framily Plan redefines the way we think of family plans and gives our customers the power to decide who will be a part of their group and gain greater savings as more members are added," Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said in a press statement. "Sprint continues to be a leader in offering customers choice, flexibility and value. The Sprint Framily Plan makes Sprint the best choice for families and friends."
For instance: One customer who pays $55 a month for unlimited voice and text plus 1GB of data will pay $5 less each month for one additional customer joining the network. The maximum discount can go as much as $30. With seven or more individual users joining one network the cost will come down to $25 each month. The subscribers are free to opt for unlimited data for an extra $20 per month, which does not affect other users' bills. Unlimited data users are entitled for an annual upgrade to a new smartphone.
The reduced monthly rates do not include any handset installment charges.
T-Mobile will be introducing its "Uncarrier 4.0," Wednesday. Several media reports have speculated that the new strategy will be more focused on family plans. With the increasing competition in the wireless industry, the end users will have multiple options that can add to the savings.
