Singer Mariah Carey has reportedly blamed the abrupt end to her engagement with James Packer on Scientology while pointing businessman Tommy Davis for poisoning Packer with the religious philosophy.
News.com.au reports that Carey's camp accuses Davis of taking over Packer's finances, and suspects that Davis may have convinced James Packer to join a ritualistic detox program run by the church of scientology called "Purification Rundown", which requires Packer to be distant and disconnected to Carey.
However Packer's camp strongly refute this, and attribute the split to Carey's frivolous and extreme spending, and the drama that is forever in her shadow as she is part of a reality show for E!, the report says.
The Daily mail reports that Mariah Carey, 46, and Packer, 49 had a huge fight on board Packer's private yacht in Greece in September.
James Packer, an Australian by citizenship, has been a scientologist for the past four years after he got introduced into it by none other than Tom Cruise, who is a hardened scientologist himself. The religion was founded by science fiction author, Ron Hubbard.
The report quotes NY website page six who says that Mariah Carey and James Packer were looking to buy a house at Beverly Hills in August, and everything was hunky dory between the two. He had shown enthusiasm in the marriage and kept saying she was his soulmate. But in September, he seems to have undergone a change in his behaviour towards Carey and in turn, Carey suspects Davis of poisoning him with the religion at the time.
Mariah Carey's reported growing friendship with dancer Bryan Tanaka could have irked Packer, and made him a tad jealous, although the singer's camp have denied any such infidelity. The report suggests that the singer is demanding up to 40 million pounds from the casino tycoon as settlement for "separation".
