Missing Student Body: Is it Brown Student Sunil Tripathi?

The body pulled out of the Providence River on Tuesday is likely that of missing Brown student Sunil Tripathi.

Police said the body was found floating in the river by the coach of Brown's rowing team. The body was male, between the ages of 20 and 30 and appeared to have been in the water for several days, according to Fox News.

While authorities cannot be certain until the medical office confirms the body's identity, Providence police Lieutenant Joseph Donnelly believes that "it's very, very possible" the body is that of Tripathi.

Tripathi, a 22-year-old student at Brown, had been missing since March 15. He lived in an apartment in Providence, and enjoyed spending time at libraries and the chess club.

His sister Sangeeta Tripathi described her brother as acting normal in the time leading up to his disappearance, but admitted that he was going through a "tough time."

She did not elaborate.

On March 15, Tripathi had tea with a friend, talked to his grandmother on the phone, and exchanged text messages with his aunt and mother. No one felt anything was out of the ordinary, according to his sister.

She texted him on Saturday afternoon and never heard back.

His wallet and cell phone were found in his apartment, along with a note that his sister would only describe as being "...very short...very vague and not conclusive." Aside from clothing, glasses, an apartment key and college ID, nothing seemed to have been taken.

Nearly a month since Tripathi went missing, his family was shocked to discover rumors circulating online that he might be a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing. Those rumors proved unfounded.

"Someone will tweet, then retweet, and completely unsubstantiated things can proliferate so rapidly and destructively," his sister told reporters. "Those night hours were horrible."
