Kate Gosselin’s Twins Dish on Life After Reality Show: ‘People Expect Us to be Damaged’

Even though reality TV mom Kate Gosselin has remained in the spotlight even after the family reality show ended, her eight children have not. There has been a lot of speculation about how the kids have handled life without the cameras and how they coped through their parents bitter divorce in 2009.

For the first time since 2011, Gosselin's twin girls Mady and Cara, 13, are revealing what's life is like and wanted to set one thing straight: they are perfectly ok.

"People expect us to be damaged," Cara told People magazine.

"People think we're supposed to be messed up, like, 'Ohhhhh, the poor Gosselin kids, they're going to be scarred for life, waaah,'" Mady added. "Here's the big news: we're not messed up."

It seems like life away from the spotlight have suited the kids well. Mady and Cara also talked about their mom telling the magazine that they think she is "annoying."

"[Our mom] is annoying on purpose," Cara said. "Like she does it just to bother us."

"Like, she says 'spensive. I'm like, 'Mom it's expensive. 'Spensive isn't a word! Stop it!'" Mady explains.

"She totally does that just to annoy us," Cara adds.

Despite how the family is viewed by the public, the 38-year-old mom said she couldn't be more proud of her children.

"I wish they were a little more innocent in some ways [but] they're savvy, and they've learned things about the world and peoples intentions that took me decades to learn," she told the magazine. "They're more aware of their surroundings and can size you up with a glance. They're nobody's fools."

The girls also opened about their parents split telling People that at the time they didn't see anything wrong with their father, Jon Gosselin's behavior.

"The stuff I remember now is stuff that I don't really see anything wrong with at the time. Now that I look back, I can see 'Oh, that wasn't a really good thing,'" Mady said referring to her father's many girlfriends shortly after the split.
