First, Apple launches Siri. Microsoft follows with Cortana. Then Google is out to equip all of its smart devices with the Assistant. The trend does not end there.
In yet a new twist, Samsung joins the list of tech groups that have virtual associates in their flagships. It is not surprising if the South Korean manufacturer seeks to come up with new ideas in order to unload its frustrations from the Note 7 fiasco.
Although one disastrous item can motivate an organization to institute a new product, it is also possible that what triggered Samsung's pursuit of a digital fixture can be attributed to Google's exploits.
Just recently, the search engine giant has manufactured its very own smartphone brand. It did not stop there. Instead, the Mountain View-based group invests in a virtual figure that manages its systems across its smart product lines. The move has spearheaded Google to the top. With virtual assistants becoming valuable, it is possible that Samsung realizes that it needs to establish an AI controller across its devices.
Considering that the Seoul-based company has its share of promising upgrades, Samsung hopes to integrate technological intelligence into its products. Of particular interest is the trademark filing of Bixby.
The application reveals that a system that utilizes voice recognition will be incorporated into the tablets, smartphones, laptops and other related devices of the South Korean group. The virtual helper Bixby will make user lives convenient judging from its hands free functionality.
As part of its commitment to build an artificial intelligence software, Samsung has acquired Viv Labs which focuses on virtual technology. It must be revealed that Viv Labs is the same group that produced Apple's Siri. How Bixby will function is of particular interest since observers and experts will surely be looking at comparative details between the two virtual assistants.
With the Galaxy S8 looming to be released very soon, it is highly likely that this unit will introduce Samsung's new digital companion.
