The update CyanogenMod, the most popular custom ROM provider, has been released.
CyanogenMod 14.1 Nightly, built based on Android 7.1 Nougat, will be pushed first to few devices at first and other devices will get the update soon too. The update is still a work in progress, so one can expect that some features are missing.
The devices that will be compatible with the CM 14.1, for now, are the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, LG G3, LG G4, Moto G variants, Samsung Galaxy S5, Xiaomi Mi3/Mi4, OnePlus 3 and ASUS ZenFone 2.
All these smartphones are not older than 2014 except for Nexus 6. This certainly raises worries for Nexus 6 users who want to unofficially update to Android 7.1.
Steve Kondik, founder of CyanogenMod also mentioned that "Bug reports are OK". But he asked users not to file bugs for missing features because the ROM is still a work in progress.
"Now is a great time to get involved with the project too. CM is returning to its community-driven roots and there are endless ways to help out," he said.
According to CyanogenMod's official website, CM14.1 is a relatively new development. In next few weeks, more devices will be added to the list. If your smartphone or tablet are not listed on the website, just give them a bit of time.
While most people usually don't consider nightly builds to be stable enough, this version has been rolled out to the common end-users. So, don't forget to check out the CyanogenMod download page for the full list.
