With the shutdown of the top Torrent sites Torrentz, Kickass Torrents and TorrentHound, it is ExtraTorrent's turn to close down. Recent reports about the site losing control over its key domain have surfaced, which have the rumor mills churning out stories about ExtraTorrent shutdown.
After The Pirates Bay, ExtraTorrent was the next most visited torrent site at any point of time in the U.S. and in other places of the world. Moreover, after the shutdown of the reliable Torrent sites, users were forced to look for an alternative for the KickAss Torrents, Torrentz, and TorrentHound, and it was ExtraTorrent that they turned to. The popular torrent site has an Alexa ranking of 237 in the U.S. and 158 otherwise with an approximate of 170 million visitors in a month, reports Digital Music News.
Notably, in case The Pirates Bay, which is currently being hailed as the King of Torrents is taken down, the position will be taken over by ExtraTorrent in no time.
In other news, it is being said that with the recent shutdown of Kickass Torrents and TorrentHound, authorities deciding on to take down ExtraTorrent is not surprising as it is the natural next takedown target. Moreover, when three of its domain names, ETproxy.top, ExtraTorrent.rocks and ExtraTorrent.date, which were serving as the mirrors for ExtraTorrent became inaccessible, it fueled speculations that it will be taken down, reports Torrent Freak.
The domain registrar, Subreg.cz stated that the domains are not blocked but also admitted that there is a standing complain, which may lead to the shutdown of ExtraTorrent.
To combat the situation of a shutdown, ExtraTorrent has its new domains ready to replace the hijacked mirror sites. The users are already being directed to the official backup sites ExtraTorrent.site and Extra.to.
It is worth mentioning here that the main ExtraTorrent.cc domain is fully accessible and working for now and it can be counted amongst the reliable Kickass Torrents and Torrentz alternatives.
