The Toronto Raptors are looking good at the start of NBA regular season. They've already struck five wins and two losses in seven games. But still, reports are spreading that they are inquiring the availability of center DeMarcus Cousins to the Sacramento Kings.
Cousins, who has been regular in NBA trade rumor mills for the past few months, was rumored to be placed on the trading block and might deal away by the team. Though the Kings organization firmly denies the speculation, an earlier buzz has reported that a deal involving Cousins was being kept secret by general manager Vlade Divac and team owner Vivek Ranadive.
And now, the Raptors are reaching out to the Kings to make a deal to acquire Cousins. Why are the Raptors are doing such move? According to iTech Post, in order to compete against the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers, the Raptors are making a big step to acquire Boogie and finally beat the Cavs in the East.
In the report, trade scenario is suggesting that the Raptors will send Jonas Valanciunas, Cory Joseph, and Norman Powell to the Kings in exchange for Cousins. Though the Raptors are making a big gamble to get Cousins, the reward might worth for an Eastern Conference title or maybe a Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy.
It is recalled that the Cavs and Raptors dispute the Eastern Conference title last season in which the Cavs won in six games (4-2). The win lead the Cavs to NBA Finals which they won in seven thrilling matches against the Golden State Warriors. It could be the Raptors holding the title right now if they somehow escaped the Cavs.
Now, acquiring Cousins could make that dream a reality for the Raptors and in the process fill in the hole left by power forward/center Bismack Biyombo. Biyombo left the Raptors as a free agent and join the Orlando Magic in the offseason.
In a report by Bleacher Report on the latest NBA trade rumor, the Kings are being recommended to stick out to Cousins for one more year while evaluating the trade proposal of the Raptors. Boogie still have one more year in contract with the Kings after the 2016-2017 season so it is better first to observe if he will adapt to Kings new head coach Dave Joerger system for the meantime.
Will the Toronto Raptors wait up for the Sacramento Kings to release DeMarcus Cousins or they will aggressively move to make the deal happen as soon as possible? Stay tuned for more of the NBA trade rumors and updates.
