Microsoft and Sony have been battling one another in the console market for over a decade andwith the launch of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S, S for Scorpio, that war looks likely to continue. While Dishonored 2 reviews also not set to go live until after the PS4 and Xbox One release date.
In case you're tempted to pick up both consoles, you'll surely want to know which one you're better off getting. Here's our head-to-head- comparison of the PS4 Pro and Xbox Project Scorpio.
According to Microsoft, the Xbox Scorpio will be having a GPU capable of operating at 6 teraflops. Compare that number to the 4.2 teraflops computing power of the PS4 Pro.
The difference between these figures equates to an overall performance difference of 43%, in the Xbox Scorpio's favour. And this is the reason why and Xbox team are confident. They know that the Scorpio will provide a performance advantage over the PS4 Pro that is so obvious.
According to Digital Foundry, PS4 Pro will come with a boosted clock speed of 2.1GHz, faster GDDR5 RAM (218GB/sec instead of 176GB/sec) and. Sony has also added in an extra slice of 1GB DDR3 RAM for "non-critical apps" like Netflix or YouTube. PS4 Pro when performing 16-bit computations, the PS4 Pro is actually capable of outputting a whopping 8.4 TFLOPs.
On the other hand, Xbox Scorpio, according to Microsoft's unveiling video, will be capable of hitting 1.31 TFLOPs, and the PS4 Pro hits 4.2 TFLOPs, so, this is seriously powerful stuff. Beyond that, there is no information on what sort of RAM it'll make use of. But chances are it'll upgrade to something similar to the PS4 Pro's improved GDDR5 218GB/sec memory in an 8 or 16GB configuration.
Both the PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio will feature the ability to play games and view content in glorious 4K. We know about Xbox One S performance of 6 teraflops while Sony, has been rather savvy with its 4K functionality.
Games will play at 4K if you want them to, scaling down to 1080p if you want enhanced visuals and increased performance over straight-up resolution bumps. However, the PS4 Pro is not strictly a 4K console in the manner you'd expect, reports Alphr.
Outside of games, Sony's PS4 Pro can play Netflix and YouTube content in 4K HDR with more apps and 4K films coming to PlayStation Store shortly after launch. While for Xbox there is a little information on what we can expect from Scorpio outside of games for Xbox One we can expect a 4K Blu-ray player something the PS4 Pro lacks, all along with a slew of 4K media apps.
Sony has kept specs of PS4 Pro r under wraps. But some specs we know like its CPU has seen a 2x jump in power with the ability to boost its GPU for developers. It's also featuring an improved RAM and a 1TB hard drive.
For Xbox Scorpio, everyone's guess is on a 2017 release, but with hardware still very much in the development stage we could actually be waiting until 2018. While the PS4 Pro is already out. It launched on 10 November and so Sony has a nice chunky lead over its US opponent.
