Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has reportedly met with the MLS side Chicago Fire as he looks to life beyond Manchester this January.
According to TalkSport, negotiations between the club and former German captain is at early stage and nothing has been formally agreed to.
The German is claimed interested in joining the MLS and eventually met with Chicago coach Veljko Paunovic. The regular MLS season ended last month and Paunovic is a part of European scouting team for the club.
The German would certainly represent a major regime for Chicago based club, who finished bottom in Eastern Conference competition last term.
Schweinsteiger returned to United's first team training after remaining outcast for most part of early season under Jose Mourinho.
However, according to BBC, the German won't get a chance to show his worth in England.
"I'm trying to keep myself for any possible situation in which I am needed," he said during a video produced during an advertisement shoot with German snack manufacturers Funny Frisch.
Schweinsteiger joined Manchester United in Jult 2015, in a deal worth 14.4m and last played for the Red Devils in a 1-0 win over their city rivals Manchester City under current manager's predecessor, Louis Van Gaal.
It has been difficult few months for recently retired German midfielder. The 2014 World Cup winner was given an emotional testomonial by Germany when he announced his retirement but has failed to impress his new club manager Jose Mourinho.
He has made 31 appearances for the club and scored one goal, the tally that doesn't seem likely to add up anymore for this club.
He's on a £180,000-a-week wage at Old Trafford and will take a significant pay-cut if the MLS switch does happen.
For a neutral's perspective, it's a win-win situation for both club and player, not having game time will definitely decrease the confidence and the club he's possibly moving to needs a player like him to stabilise things.
