The New York Yankees are considered as one of the most celebrated sports clubs in the world. In its 114 MLB season, the Yankees won 40 AL pennants, 18 division titles and 27 World Series Championships, all of which are MLB records.
It is also said that in pursuit of World Series titles, the Yankees use a large sum of money in order to recruit big-time talents on the team. Their rivalry with the Boston Red Sox is one of the most popular rivalries in US sports history.
However, last season was a nightmare for the Yankees. At 84-78 win-loss record, the Yankees didn't make the MLB playoffs. Because of this, a lot of speculations and trade rumors circles around the internet. One of those rumors is that the Yankees are trading third baseman Chase Headley and left fielder Brett Gardner.
Chase Headley made his MLB debut in 2007 with the San Diego Padres. On 2014, he was traded to the Yankees. Brett Gardner, on the other hand, is currently the longest-tenured player in Yankees. He made his debut in 2008, named an All-Star in 2015 and won a Gold Glove Award in 2016.
According to New York Post, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that he is receiving some interest in Gardner and Headley. Cashman also said that Gardner is the Yankee's everyday left fielder and Headley is the team's everyday third baseman. But also emphasize that they have everyday players on their team and he is open-minded to listen to offers.
Headley batted .251/.329/.383 in 140 games last season that also includes 14 home runs and 51 RBI. Meanwhile, Gardner slashed .261/.351/.362 in 148 games last season that included 7 home runs and 41 RBIs, per ESPN.
Rumors say that this offseason, the market for free agents are relatively weak with Justin Turner as the best available third baseman. Because of this, speculations say that several teams are interested to make a deal to acquire the services of Headley.
On the other hand, the Houston Astros is the one that is interested to trade for Gardner, as per The Gamer's Drop.
Will the Yankees trade Gardner and Headley? As of this moment, no negotiations have already been made but the Yankees are said to be open for any possibilities to trade both players.
