Fans were crushed when "The Vampire Diaries" co-stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder broke up. They hoped for reconciliation, but that didn't happen and Ian went on to marry "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed.
Nina and Ian dated from 2010 to 2013. Nina was reported to regret that she and Ian did "The Vampire Diaries" altogether as their relationship turned sour.
Previously stated by Celeb Dirty Laundry, Ian wanted to publicize their relationship while Nina didn't want the attention turned on them.
An insider revealed that after breaking up with Nina, the "Lost" actor flaunted his romance and marriage with Nikki in Nina's face.
"Now she's at the point of regretting her time on The Vampire Diaries completely. Nina knows that if she had never done the show, she wouldn't have fallen in love with Ian in the first place," the insider was quoted in the report.
However, she admitted of being happy on E!News when she heard about Ian and Nikki's marriage.
The actress said that the wedding was beautiful and she was happy to hear the news. She further stated that Ian is a great friend and their friendship is still strong. They both care for each other and that didn't change.
Nina also mentioned that the reason of their breakup wasn't because something bad happened or there wasn't love or friendship.
Even if they are not together, fans are still hoping for a possible reunion in the show before its ultimate wrap. It seems like that is exactly what's going to happen.
According to Entertainment Weekly, show creator and executive producer Julie Plec recently hinted on a comeback of Nina Dobrev, but not as Elena.
"I will confirm nothing, but the visual similarities are not accidental. The big question of the season is: How do our characters fit in this world? Are they all doomed? Is there a chance for redemption? Can you earn your way back out of a one-way ticket to Hell?" Plec admitted.
