Apple likely to phase-out ‘Air’ series after March 2017 launch of iPad Air 3

Apple's iPad Air appears to be a larger version of iPad Mini. It is also packed with more features. But iPad Air 3, slated for release in March 2017, may be a better option for customers.

According to UniversityHerald, the iPad Air features a 9.7 inch IPS LCD display coupled with a scratch resistant glass with an oleophobic coating. These features are superior to the iPad Mini, which did not have the scratch resistant glass besides sporting a smaller display.

As against the iPad Mini's Apple A5 Chip with a 1.0GHz Dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM, iPad Air features an Apple A9 Chip with 1.3 Dual-core processor, along with 1GB of RAM. Similarly, the iPad Air comes with an 8600mAh battery as against the 4490 mAh battery in the iPad Mini.

These superior features are a distinct advantage in iPad Air as opposed to the iPad Mini.

However superior the features are on the iPad Air, customers are looking eagerly for the iPad Air 3 as it is expected as early as March 2017 as per this report of Macworld.

It is also rumored that Apple may end the Air series after the release of iPad Air 3. The reason is because iPad Air and the new iPad Pros would come with similar screen sizes and customers would find it difficult to choose between the two.

As far as the likely features of the iPad Air 3 goes, the report added that it would be released with 3D Touch and dual camera. Its display would be a 9.7-inch 4K display. It would come with A10 processor. The tablet would be just 5mm thick, making it sleeker than its earlier avatar.

The iPhone customers should feel happy as iPad Air 3 would in all probability have some of the features found in iPhone 7. One of the popular features of the iPhone is the dual camera and the iPad Air 3 is likely to feature the dual camera.
