Tesla is responding to the on-going complaints of overheating charger plugs by sending out upgraded chargers to Model S owners, free of cost.
Tesla, one of the biggest luxury car makers, announced Friday that it is dispatching upgraded plug chargers to all Model S owners in order to better address the reported incidents of overheating. The American car maker is known to go an extra mile to ensure the customers are happy. The company already took some preventive measures to fix the overheating problem in Model S by rolling out an over-the-air update last month.
Tesla Model S, the best-selling electric car in 2013, has come under scrutiny on several occasions in the recent months. The car maker has responded immediately to all the concerns. The recent reports of several drivers complaining of overheating of chargers were addressed without asking the customers to drive in to any dealership or service outlet. Tesla says the OTA update has successfully resolved the issue, but dispatching upgraded chargers shows the company's "commitment to full customer satisfaction."
"To provide another layer of assurance to Model S customers using the 14-50 socket, we have designed an improved wall adapter with a thermal fuse," Tesla said in a press release, Friday. "Even if the circuit breakers on the house side and car side don't trip, the thermal fuse will prevent current from flowing if the wall socket region heats up for any reason."
Tesla S owners can confirm the car is upgraded with the latest update by accessing the 17-inch touch screen and confirming the software version is 5.8.4 or higher. In case the vehicle is not up to date, customers are required to bring the car to Tesla Service Centers for a manual update.
Tesla has not reported any fire incidents related to the overheating issue and the company will be shelling out a "few million dollars for the chargers, and it will have no material impact on the company's earnings," Liz Jarvis-Shean, a company spokeswoman told Bloomberg.
