The Dallas Mavericks are off to a very bad start in this 2016-2017 NBA season. At 2-11 win-loss record, the Mavs are at the last spot in the Western Conference. In fact, they are the worst team in the NBA right now.
Newly-acquired Harrison Barnes is having a breakout season. He is averaging 21.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 13 games with the Mavs. Wesley Matthews and Seth Curry are also having a great season as have a scoring average of 13.3 points and 10.1 points respective.
However it is still not enough to give the Mavs enough victories. The injury of the franchise longtime NBA veteran Dirk Nowitzki who is still a great shooter despite his age is of one the biggest reason why the Mavs are in this kind of misery.
He missed his last 8 games with a sore right achilles. But according to Dallas News, there is a possibility that Nowitzki might return today against the Los Angeles Clippers.
But having Nowitzki back will not be enough. Thus, rumors are spreading that they are looking to acquire another superstar. And according to iTech Post, the Mavs is looking to get Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins.
In the rumored trade, four NBA teams and 11 players will be involved. The trade will be as follows:
1. Dallas Mavericks will get DeMarcus Cousins and Darren Collison from the Sacramento Kings
2. Sacramento Kings will get Deron Williams and Justin Anderson from the Mavs, Mike Scott from the Hawks, a 2017 first-round draft pick from Mavs and a first-round draft pick from Hawks
3. Atlanta Hawks will get Devin Harris and Dwight Powell from the Mavs, and a second-round draft pick from the Sixers
4. The Philadephia 76ers will get Tiago Splitter from the Hawks.
This might cost a lot for the Mavericks. But given the expected return, it might worth the risk.
DeMarcus Cousins is clearly the best center in the league right now as he is averaging 26.9 points and 9.6 rebounds. Having a young Cousins and Barnes will make the Mavs playoff contenders for years to come.
If the Dallas Mavericks are willing to get back to their glory days, they need to get another superstar like Cousins. Will the Dallas Mavericks be the next NBA destination for DeMarcus Cousins?
