Apple Likely To Launch 'iPad Mini' At Oct. 23 Event

Tech giant Apple is expected to show off a less costly version of its popular iPad, dubbed the "iPad mini" at its Oct. 23 event.

Rumours have circulated about a small-form factor tablet dubbed the "iPad mini," and Reuters confirmed that Apple will host an invite-only event on Oct. 23 where Apple's much-anticipated gadget will be launched.

AllThingsD first broke the news on Friday about the possible lunch of the device and said it will feature a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display and a Lightning connector. The device would cost anywhere between $200 and $250.

iPad mini will heat up the tablet market and is expected to give Amazon and Google who offers less expensive device, a run for their money. Experts have been predicting this move for a while now and many believe that the introduction of a less costly version of its popular iPad might hurt its margin but will keep its competitors from dominating the tablet market.

Both, Amazon's Kindle Fire HD tablet and Google's Nexus 7 are priced at under $200. Amazon's first Kindle Fire was so successful that it captured nearly fifth of the U.S. tablet market. It should also be noted that the expected launch date (Oct. 23) is just a few days to go for Microsoft's anticipated launch of Windows 8 and its new Surface tablet (Oct. 26).
