Last season, the Oklahoma City Thunder was one of the best teams in the NBA. They've beaten the 2nd seed San Antonio Spurs in the 2nd round of the playoffs last season and were on the brink of advancing to the NBA Finals. But they were knocked out by the Golden State Warriors after blowing a 3-1 series lead.
And last off-season, OKC's franchise player for a long time shockingly choose to sign with the Warriors. And now, Oklahoma City Thunder is Russell Westbrook's team. As expected, that scenario unleashed the monster inside Westbrook.
He is averaging an astounding 31.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, 11.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 35.4 minutes. He is second in scoring and assists, 13th in rebounds and minutes. He is clearly a one-man wrecking crew for the Thunder.
And they are doing well in the Post-Durant Era. At 10-8 win-loss record, the OKC Thunder are sixth in the competitive Western Conference. They just won 2 in a row beating the Denver Nuggets and the Detroit Pistons.
However, the Thunder still lacks the offensive firepower that they once have when Durant was playing with them. They need an additional scorer capable of hitting shots when Westbrook was heavily guarded by opposing teams.
According to Inquisitr, the Thunder might consider getting the services of NBA veteran scorer Dirk Nowitzki. And in exchange, the Dallas Mavericks could get Enes Kanter, Cameron Payne, Kyle Singler and Nick Collison.
The Mavs is the worst NBA team on paper. They were 3-13 and lost eight of their last nine games. There's a very high chance that they might not make the playoffs this year considering how competitive the Western Conference is. Because of this, there is a very slim chance that the Mavs' veteran will be traded.
Now on his 19th NBA season, Dirk Nowitzki is playing quite well this season considering his age. He is averaging 12.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He is also sixth in the NBA's All-Time Scoring List with a total of 29,552 points, as per ESPN.
If Nowitzki will play for the Thunder, OKC's offense will improve and might even make it to the top 3 teams in the West. Aside from that, Nowitzki will be useful during the playoffs. His long-time experience and scoring abilities might help the Thunder to have a deeper playoff run.
Will Dirk Nowitzki join forces with Russell Westbrook to form one of the best teams in the West? Stay tuned for more NBA trade rumors and updates.
