'American Hustle' Director Compares Jennifer Lawrence's 'Hunger Games' Work Schedule to '12 Years a Slave'

Though he was honored at last night's Golden Globes, that didn't stop "American Hustle" director David O. Russell from taking a dig at "The Hunger Games" franchise and his film competitor "12 Years a Slave" in comparing Jennifer Lawrence's "Games" work schedule to, as he said, "12 years a slavery," the New York Daily News reports.

"I personally think they should give her a bit of breathing room over there because they're printing money," Russell told Confidenti@l at Friday's Australian Academy's AACTA Awards in Los Angeles on the topic of Lawrence, whom he has also directed in "Silver Linings Playbook."

"But she's a very alive person," he continued. "I'll tell you what it is about that girl - talk about 12 years of slavery, that's what the franchise is. And I'm going to get in so much trouble for saying that." He also likened the 23-year-old actress's work in the highly popular "The Hunger Games" franchise to a "hamster wheel," claiming that she has taken on more "artistic" roles as a "vacation" of sorts, according to the New York Daily News.

Last night at the 71st Golden Globe, Lawrence took home the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the crime drama "American Hustle," having beat out "12 Years a Slave" star and newcomer Lupita Nyong'o for the coveted prize. However, Steve McQueen's critically acclaimed "12 Years a Slave" did take home the award for Best Drama.
