Apple developing iCar to rival Tesla’s electric SUVs

Reports are suggesting that Apple is developing an electric iCar to rival Tesla. Apple Inc., manufacturer of the ever so popular iMac, Macbook Pros, iPods and iPads, have been rumored to be developing a new smart car, codenamed Project Titan.

Since February of last year, various reports leaked about the development of iCar and fans have been speculating for a while now.

Whether Apple is developing an iCar to rival Tesla electric sedans and SUVs is still a source of energetic discussions since there is still no official statement from Apple. Rumors have it that parts of the iCar will be developed in Berlin, according to Trusted Reviews.

According to the German media, Apple has been in touch with companies that specialize in manufacturing car charging stations.

Bloomberg reported that Apple and "Project Titan" team also hired a number of former BlackBerry engineers as part of a new Canadian office in Kanata, a suburb of Ottawa. This will help in strengthening many people's belief that an Apple iCar is really in the making.

During the Apple Q4 2016 financial results, Apple CEO Tim Cook replied on the question regarding the Apple Car by saying, "Always looks for ways that we can improve the experience and the customers' experience on different sets of products."

"We are always looking at new things, and the car space, in general, is an area that it's clear that there is a lot of technologies that will either become available or will be able to revolutionize the car experience," he added.

Various rumors suggest that the iCar will be completed on 2019 and will be due for release by 2021.

Meanwhile, Nvidia already had talks of having tie-ups with Tesla, a move by both companies can make their lead even further in smart car. Corning, the manufacturer of the Gorilla Glass, is also contributing in smart car production as well. They are integrating their technology that will provide the Gorilla glass for smart car windshields.
