With just three months to go until the season 4 premiere of "Game of Thrones," fans have already been treated to a full-length trailer, and the rumor mill is abuzz with spoilers and speculation. Stephen Dillane, who plays Stannis Baratheon, recently spoke with Den of Geek! on what fans can expect come April 6.
As for whether or not we'll see more of Stannis this season, Dillane admitted that we won't, and even admitted that filming the show is "not actually that much of a commitment" for him, as "not hugely involved in it at the moment."
As Dillane did not read the source material, George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire Series," he didn't have much to offer in the way of teasers as to how much Stannis will be involved come season 5, though book readers certainly know what's coming for his character and those associated with him, including the cunning Melisandre, kind-hearted Davos Seaworth ("The Onion Knight"), and Princess Shireen, Stannis' sweet daughter infected with greyscale, and his wife, Selyse.
When asked if the "machinations on 'Game of Thrones' appeal to" a Shakespearean actor such as himself, Dillane said, "I wouldn't say that that is its appeal, no. I know what you mean about Shakespeare in the sense that it clearly draws on Shakespeare's history plays for its inspiration in some ways, and the Greeks, and pretty much every other kind of epic history thats ever been written. But in terms of playing the role, no, I wouldn't say that's the attraction. I find its fascination is certainly in that kind of extraordinary exchange of power that goes on, and the fact that it's really the only game in town. I think that people recognise that to be the way of the world at the moment."
