Google has updated its popular Chrome browser to include new features like a new Metro interface on Windows 8 PCs, tiny icons on tabs to track the noisy ones, improved security and more.
Google is improving the overall Chrome experience by rolling out an update. The update brings changes for Chrome on Windows 8. Google's latest attempt to lure Windows users is giving a Chrome OS-like experience within its Chrome browser. The Mountain View, Calif.-based internet giant will also help track the noisy tabs without going through each one of them.
For Windows 8:
Chrome on Windows 8 PCs gives a chance to users to experience the Chrome OS-like Metro interface from within the browser, Google said in a Chrome Blog, Tuesday. The new interface will be available to users running Microsoft's newest OS in Metro mode. The browser gets an integrated app launcher with quick access to apps like Gmail, YouTube and others.
This is yet another step by Google to put its biggest rival Microsoft a step behind. Google rules the mobile OS kingdom with its biggest Android platform, whereas Microsoft has only scratched the platform with its competing Windows Phone platform.
Features For All Users:
Google has also added a new feature that helps Chrome users across all platforms to track noisy tabs. It is often seen that one particular tab with a devious noisy ad makes users go through all opened tabs more than once. The update, which brings Chrome build to 32, places a tiny speaker icon on the tab itself to show which one is playing the sound in the background. This helps users to go to that particular tab and either pause the video or just close it from whichever tab you are in. The tiny speaker icon also flashes on the tab with a chat notification.
In addition to the tiny speaker icon, Google Chrome will also display a red recording icon on the tab to show which one is accessing your webcam. Also, a small TV icon will help users find the tab that is being cast on your television set.
The browser will now offer better security and keep away files that can harm the computer. These features have been a part of Chrome's developer builds since November and completion of beta testing brings the features to all users.
If you haven't seen any changes on your browser, then go to Google Chrome Control and Customization menu on the top right corner and click on About Google Chrome. Wait for the updates to install and re-launch when prompted and enjoy the new features on your Chrome.
