MLB rumors are swirling around Chicago White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana in the news nowadays. Reports are saying that the White Sox are also considering to trade him days after they trade Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox and Adam Eaton to the Washington Nationals. And it seems that the Houston Astros are moving fast to acquire Quintana from the White Sox.
Coming from a minor league, Quintana, who has been named to the MLB All-Star Game this year, has elevated his game that gave him the chance to play in the majors. And now that he established his name in the MLB league, he got the attention of many teams and one of them is the Astros.
According to MLB Daily Dish, the Houston Astros have earlier shown an interest in acquiring Jose Quintana from the Chicago White Sox and since the White Sox are said to be open to trading him, the Astros are now moving to add him to their roster.
Last season, the 27-year old closer had a 13-12 win-loss record and a pitching average of a 3.20 ERA, 1.16 WHIP with 181 strikeouts in 208 career-high innings. His averages could be what the Astros been waiting for as they badly needed a closer on the pitcher's mound. Moreover, Quintana's salary is just under $38 million over the next four years making him affordable for the Astros.
Aside from Quintana, the Astros are previously active on getting Edwin Encarnacion. However, after signing Carlos Beltran to a 1-year, $16-million deal, they immediately stop chasing Encarnacion and now focusing on adding a pitcher in their fold.
In a separate MLB trade report by Fansided, aside from the Astros, the Washington Nationals are also making a run to get the services of Quintana. Though at first, it seems that the Nationals have the upper hand on Quintana because of their better farm system but the Astros might squeeze in and beat them by offering much more value to the White Sox.
Will the Houston Astros be able to acquire Jose Quintana from the Chicago White Sox this offseason of MLB?
