Celebrities lead a tough life. One comment or a like and they find themselves in the midst of a controversy. And the latest victim of such fiasco is none other than Rihanna.
The 59th Annual Grammy Awards nominations were reveled earlier this week. Beyoncé received the nod for "Album of the year" for "Lemonade". But Rihanna was snubbed from this category.
Along with Beyoncé, Adele, Drake, Justin Bieber and Sturgill Simpson have been also nominated for "Album of the year" category. In total Beyoncé received 9 nominations while Rihanna received 8, as per NME.
The controversy started when a fan of Rihanna posted a congratulatory picture on Instagram celebrating the singer's 8 Grammy nominations. Following that in the caption the fan threw a major shade at Beyoncé.
The fan first congratulated Rihanna but then said that the Grammy committee is not being fair for nominating RiRi for just 8 nominations. While "someone else" received 9 nominations, indicating Beyoncé.
According to the fan, Grammys intentionally didn't want Rihanna tied or surpassing Beyoncé. Given the chance, it would have been Rihanna leading the nomination tally.
Fans went crazy when Rihanna herself liked this post. They started suggesting that she agrees with Grammy being biased.
But the "Work" singer soon came clean, claiming that she just liked the post because of the picture. Rihanna stated that she didn't even read the caption before double tapping the heart button.
According to Vogue, RiRi wrote in that fan's post, "I never actually read your caption, thought the pic was funny and moved right along! I'm petty af, yes. But this is just unnecessary!"
"I wish y'all would drop this topic and see things from the bigger picture!" she added. "We don't need to be putting black women against each other! We deserve to be celebrated, and the Grammy Academy agrees!"
RiRi seemed really pissed after being accused of throwing shade at her peer. Well now both Rihanna and Beyoncé's fans can sigh in relief knowing that there is no animosity between the singers.
