George Jones, one of country music's most notable voices, succumbed at the age of 81 on Friday, according to CNN.com.
The acclaimed singer of No.1 singles such as "He Stopped Loving Her Today", "White Lightning", and "She Thinks I Still Care", had been hospitalized at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center since April 18 due to an irregularity in blood pressure.
Fellow country musicians took to the media to pay their respects to the fallen country icon.
"My heart is absolutely broken," said Dolly Parton. "George Jones was my all time favorite singer and one of my favorite people in the world."
Garth Brooks praised Jones' legacy in an email to The Associated Press.
"The greatest voice to ever grace country music will never die," he wrote. "Jones has a place in every heart that ever loved any kind of music."
With a career that spanned an impressive 50+ years in the music industry, Jones' life was not without tumultuous times. Jones' on-going battles with substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction, and numerous marriages that included singer, Tammy Wynette, played out in the media.
Jones' earned the nickname "No-Show Jones" after failing to perform at various concerts throughout his career and even used the monogram on his license plates.
Despite his highly publicized internal struggles, the world will remember his signature voice. The honoree of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and the Country Music Hall of Fame, Jones leaves behind a string of country hits for fans to adore.
"There aren't words in our language to describe the depth of his greatness," Vince Gill said. "I'll miss my kind and generous friend."
According to USAToday, Jones was set for a farewell tour in Nashville, Tennessee on Nov. 22. The tour was to include Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Sam Moore.
