Reports are revealing that Apple may have released an update to their propriety wearable operating system, Apple watchOS, a bit too prematurely. The most recent update, watchOS 3.1.1, has apparently now resulted in the bricking of some Series 2 Apple Watch models.
Several complaints were immediately launched by consumers who reported that they were no longer able to use their wearable digital timepieces right after updating to watchOS 3.1.1. Following the complaints of the bricked Series 2 Apple Watches, Apple immediately pulled the plug on the update and removed it from the Watch app store on the iPhone.
The app currently now lists watchOS 3.1 as the more recent update that is available, preventing users from upgrading to the problematic update. Apple has yet to issue a statement explaining the underlying reason behind the botched update and why it had affected some Series 2 Apple Watch models, while other models remained unaffected.
According to several user complaints, shortly after updating their wearable device, their watches the got stuck displaying a red exclamation mark on its screen prompting them to visit the company's official help page on their website. The website itself then gives users instructions on how to perform a hard reset on their device. Those who were not able to recover functionality after the hard reset were then instructed to bring their device in for servicing.
The entire procedure has proven to be quite an inconvenience for users as the Watch cannot be immediately repaired in Apple's retail locations. Watches apparently have to be sent to a different locations which have access to a diagnostic port tool.
Apple may still be in the process of clearing up the glitch on their latest update and the watchOS 3.1.1 update should become available right after it accomplishes the task. Users who are experiencing the problem are advised to visit an Apple retail store or contact Apple support immediately.
