A California Little League coach is suing a 14-year-old player for at least $500,000 after the teen threw his helmet down in celebration of a win and injured the coach's Achilles tendon.
Coach Alan Beck is suing the child for an act of victory in the last game of the spring season that went horribly wrong, according to CBS.
The young player reportedly had passed third and was on his way home to bring the team to a win when he threw his helmet in the air in a euphoric rush.
But the helmet allegedly struck Beck's Achilles tendon and tore it, Fan IQ reported on Thursday. Beck is now suing the player and the Little League for $500,000 for pain and suffering, in addition to another $100,000 he's trying to get for medical bill coverage.
The teen's father, Joe Paris, referred to the entire ordeal as "absurd."
"At first I thought it was a joke," Paris stated.
Beck's attorney Gene Goldsman said that the child didn't have malicious intentions, but should have been more careful.
"I don't think the boy meant to harm him," Goldsman told KCRA. "But, this wasn't a part of the game. A guy who volunteers his time to coach should not be subjected to someone who throws a helmet in the manner that he did. What the kid did, it crossed the line."
