Cleveland Browns WR Davone Bess Arrested at Florida Airport After Assaulting a Police Officer

Wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns Davone Bess was arrested in Florida on Friday, after he reportedly assaulted a police officer at the Fort Lauderdale Airport.

According to records from the Broward Sheriff's Office obtained by ESPN, 28-year-old Bess was taken into police custody after he confronted a law enforcement official. The wide receiver, who was let out of jail at 10:35 a.m. that same day, was allegedly exhibiting some strange behavior prior to his altercation with the officer.

The report stated that Bess looked as though he were "under the influence of an unknown narcotic," while he acted "irrationally, dancing, singing with his pants repeatedly falling down."

Officers said Bess' appearance also looked off-kilter, saying that the receiver seemed to "look through" the law enforcement official during their conversation.

Bess also snatched a cup of coffee that didn't belong to him and squeezed it, spewing the liquid on the police officer. At that point, he assumed a "fighting stance," and the law enforcement official used his baton to hit the receiver on the leg. Bess then took off his shirt and remained in the stance until more police arrived.

Bess' Friday arrest came one day after the former Dolphins' Man of the Year posted a photo on Twitter of a small parcel holding what looked like marijuana. ESPN reported that the picture was later taken down.

Bess also tweeted on Thursday a status that referred to black people using the N-word. Bess publicly stated during the season that the word should never be used, under any circumstances.

The Browns signed Bess in 2013 to a three-year contract for $11.5 million. Bess had career lows this season, with 42 catches for 362 yards, the Associated Press reported.
