South Korean President Park Geun –hye Removed from Office

The President of South Korea Park Geun-hye was removed from her position by the court on Friday. This has been the first time in history of the Nation due to delicate balance of relationships across Asia.

Park Geun-hye is the daughter of the Cold War military dictator Park Chung- hee, she was also the nation's first female president. Her removal included many months of chaos, and thousands of South Koreans took to the streets to protest against a sprawling corruption scandal. It is believed that the scandal shook top businesses including the government, as per New York Times.

Park Geun-hye was known for her conservative establishment, which joined Washington in pressing for a hard line against North Korea's nuclear frustration. It turns out that her downfall might shift the nation's politics to the opposition. The leaders now need more engagement with North Korea and are cautious of a major confrontation in the region.

The country's strategy will be re-looked with North Korea, as the 65 year old former president is now facing prosecutors seeking to charge her with bribery, extortion and abuse. Apparently her childhood friend Choi Soon-sil was involved in collecting tens of millions of dollars in bribe from big business magnets like Samsung.

According to the South Korean law the country need to elect a new president within 60 days. At present the acting president is Hwang Kyo-ahn, he is an ally of Park Geun-hye. One the other hand reports state that the Trump administration is rushing a missile defense system to South Korea to be in place before the election.

Back in 1960, a South Korean leader was removed from office due to similar pressure. The police was forced to fire on crowds calling for President Syngman Rhee to step down. Ms. Park was elected in 2012 with support from older conservative South Koreans, and her father also ruled the nation during 1961 to 1979. He was the founder of the economic growth model, and his contribution transferred the country into an export power house.
