A few weeks ago when NASA discovered a star system called 'TRAPPIST-1' where there were about seven planets with earth-like atmosphere. The hype around that discovery was really high at the same time the expectations of finding life beyond earth was always high. Unfortunately, the reality turned out to be really harsh.
Scientists have recently discovered that at least two planets of those seven planets are extremely inhabitable. The atmosphere of those couple of planets has been completely stripped off by the radiation of their parent star. Therefore, there is no chance that water would flow on the surface of these two planets.
The astronomers from a swiss university called the University of Geneva Observatory have studied the radiation which took place on those place on those two planets. After comparing the radiations the scientists have also confirmed that the 'TRAPPIST-1' star may be bit cold compared to other stars but tat the same time it is not extremely old as well.
TRAPPIST-1 is a star which is almost 39 light-years away from our solar system. Last year, NASA discovered three planets in the TRAPPIST-1 system but that time there were very few people who were interested in it. But in the last month, NASA discovered that there are about seven planets in the 'TRAPPIST-1' and some of those planets may have earth like atmosphere. That discovery really increased the amount of hype and expectations.
The planets in the 'TRAPPIST-1' star system has occupied very tight orbits and at the same time, they are very close to their parent star compared to the solar system. According to NASA, The size of most of these planets in the 'TRAPPIST-1' system is not significantly large but they are larger than the moon.
Though there are much to discover in the 'TRAPPIST-1' system, therefore it can be expected that NASA will be able to give proper knowledge on other five planets of the system.
