Earth's Inner Radiation Belt Is Far Weaker Than It Was Expected: NASA Is Excited About It

Almost five decades ago scientists of NASA discovered that the planet Earth is surrounded by two regions of charged particles. These regions seem to have a shape of doughnuts. Scientists think that it was solar wind which got trapped in the magnetic field of the planet Earth.

Scientists have assumed the location of these two regions but not explored it yet. NASA have told that it is very dangerous for a spacecraft to explore the magnetic regions as it can easily affect the spacecraft.
Though NASA has not sent any space crafts in the magnetic regions but it seems like they have done some exclusive discoveries. After the discovery scientists have claimed that the radiation in the region is far weaker than it was expected.

Scientists across the world have also claimed that these regions which are known as Van Allen Belts, play a very significant role to the planet Earth. There is some convincing evidence that these regions have protected our planet from the harmful rays of the Sun. At the same time, these regions have protected our earth from the furious solar storms as well.

The radius of these areas is really significant. The inner belt of these regions can stretch from 400 miles to 6,000 miles above the surface of the Earth. At the same time, the outer core of these regions can stretch up to 8,400 miles to 36,000 miles.

As stated by the NASA, there is a slot region present in between the belts. The studies suggest that these regions have a severe solar activity which can be really harmful to the life present on the planet Earth.

NASA had sent a couple of probes in these regions which will work together in the year of 2012. The probes have worked together in these regions having a speed around of 2,000 mph.

The NASA is also very keen to explore this area after knowing that the radiation of the inner belt is very weak. Therefore, NASA is building some bulky spacecraft which will definitely help the space organizations to explore these magnetic fields.
