Path Finally Debuts On Windows Phone 8; Mirrors Android And iOS Versions With Activity Monitor, Private Sharing & More

Path is extending its reach into the third world of mobile operating systems, the Windows Phone 8, after being available on iPhones for more than three years.

Path, a social networking service for just 150 friends and family members, has finally hit the Windows Phone 8 shores, starting Friday. The app gained immense popularity with its debut on iPhone and later on the ever-growing Android platform in the last three years. The app is currently in the beta stage for Windows Phone 8, but includes similar features that are offered on Android and iOS.

Path allows users to share special moments with a limited audience. Users can share photos, status updates, location, mood, and songs that one is listening to on the Path timeline. The app also tracks sleep patterns by recording when a user falls asleep and wakes up. The close friends and family members in the list can respond with smiles, laughs, gasps, loves, comments and more, according to the app description on Windows Phone Store.

The Path app for Windows Phone 8 also offers cross-posting of path moments to services like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Foursqaure. Users can also share special moments with a selected audience within the Path group. By creating an inner circle from within the Path friends list, users can easily share content, receive notifications and see moments only from the custom group.

"Today marks an exciting moment for the Windows Phone community as Path releases an early glimpse of their public beta app," Bryan Biniak, VP & GM of Developer Relations, said in a company's blog, Friday. "Although there is more ahead, we look forward to Path providing continued updates and delivering a best-in-class Path app experience for Nokia and Windows Phone devices."

Path may be a new entry on the Windows Phone platform, but the developers of the app, "nventive" have contributed a lot in the past. The developer has contributed over 100 Windows 8 and Windows Phone projects last year and is the largest mobile development studio for Microsoft platforms.

Path Beta for Windows Phone 8 can be downloaded for free from Windows Phone Store.
