Twitter’s Product Chief Michael Sippey Quits; ‘Transitioning To An Advisory Role’

Twitter's vice president of product, Michael Sippey, is stepping down from his post to an advisory role in the company after working there for a little over a year.

Michael Sippey, Twitter's vice president of product, has stepped down from his position to assume an advisory role at the company.

Sippey's decision to step down is the first high-level departure since Twitter turned into a public company in November last year, which was also when Sippey completed his first year of service for the social network. The news came to light after the former Twitter product chief announced it on his personal Tumblr page, Friday.

"Starting today I'm transitioning to an advisory role," Sippey wrote in an email sent to the company's staff, which was also shared on his Tumblr page. "I'll be helping with product strategy, providing input on the great work the team has lined up for 2014, and helping Ali (Chief Operating Officer Ali Rowghani) find a new head of product.

Sippey also noted that his decision came after weeks of discussion with the company's CEO Dick Costolo and Rowghani. He did not reveal the details of what's next, but expressed his interest in working for startup companies and help them scale up in their field.

"As we head into 2014, I've had a chance to reflect on what's important to me and what I love to do. I've spent most of my career working at startups, helping them scale and having a direct hand on the product," Sippey added.

Prior to his arrival at Twitter, Sippey worked at a blog platform Six Apart and then at Say Media, which was formed after Six Apart merged with VideoEgg in 2010.

Sippey has been active on Twitter, saying his goodbyes to each one of his colleagues.
