Philadelphia High School Shooting Update: 17-Year-Old Boy, Raisheem Rochwell, Charged As Adult

The 17-year-old boy who opened fire at two students in a Philadelphia high school on Friday has been charged as an adult, ABC News reported.

One day after the shooting at Delaware Valley Charter School, Raisheem Rochwell turned himself into authorities and was charged with aggravated assault, weapons possession, and other offenses. Additionally, bail was set at $500,000.

A lawyer for the teen, Amato Samita, reportedly told ABC that his client has "never been in any kind of trouble before. This is the first time he's seen a prison."

Though he was not certain of how Rochwell would plead, Samita added that he will be proven to be at fault in the situation.

"It's pretty clear from all the investigation done by all parties that nothing was done in a malicious manner," Samita said. "No evidence anything was done intentionally."

During the shooting, two unidentified students -- an 18-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy -- were shot by Rochwell around 3:30 p.m in the gymnasium. The girl was shot in the arm and the boy was hit in the shoulder with the same bullet.

Both victims were rushed to the nearest hospital and treated for non-threatening injuries. The girl was released late Friday and the boy was released on Sunday.

Immediately after, the school was placed on lock down and SWAT teams explored the building. Police allegedly used surveillance footage to identify suspects. Though two other teens were taken into custody and questioned, they were released and cleared of involvement by investigators.

The high school released a statement after the incident, saying they were working with Philadelphia authorities to "ensure that all safety measures are addressed." They are set to open on Tuesday with increased security.

The investigation is ongoing.
