Lockdown At Carson Tahoe Hospital Lifted After 88-Year-Old Man, William Dresser, Shoots Wife

A lockdown at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Nevada was lifted on Sunday after an 88-year-old man shot his wife on the third floor of the facility, CarsonNow.org reported.

According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, William Dresser shot his wife in the chest with a handgun around 11:30 a.m. There were no other injuries reported and her condition at the time is unknown.

The hospital released a statement once the lockdown was over.

"As of 1:45 p.m. on January 19th, 2014, Carson Tahoe Health Regional Medical Center has been cleared of all security threats resulting from a shooting earlier today. The shooting was a targeted situation. We are grateful to our first responders and on-site staff who acted quickly and efficiently during this tragic event. At this time, there is no new information concerning the status of the shooting victim who was transferred to Renown. The shooting suspect remains in custody. The regional medical center is no longer on lockdown," the statement said.

A motive for the shooting is still unknown.

"This has been very traumatic for us," said hospital spokeswoman Cheri Glockner. "We believe the staff did an amazing job securing the situation."

Glocker added the lockdown was in place for almost two hours, primarly for nurses and doctors to continue treating their patients not involved in the shooting in addition to securing the crime scene.

Dresser was detained by corrections officers at the hospital.

"It was very, very quickly under control," Furlong added.
