The first footage of Jennifer Lawrence's upcoming film "Red Sparrow" was showed off at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The movie is an adaptation of the Jason Matthews espionage novel of the same name.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Red Sparrow" revolves around a Russian intelligence officer, Dominika Egorova, played by Jennifer Lawrence. Egorova is then ordered, much to her dismay, to become a "Sparrow" aka a spy.
Jennifer Lawrence's character is trained as a seductress and given the project to operate against a young CIA agent. However, Egorova, now known as the Red Sparrow, falls for the CIA officer and considers becoming a double agent.
The first trailer features Jennifer Lawrence as a ballerina who is injured onstage. It also shows in flashes that her hands are covered in blood.
The trailer voiceover stated that Jennifer Lawrence's character has to go through the training of psychological manipulation and how to determine and exploit a target's weakness through seduction. "When we are finished with you the person you were will no longer exist," The Hollywood Reporter quoted actress Charlotte Rampling's voiceover from the trailer.
Rampling plays Jennifer Lawrence's character's instructor. The movie also stars Joel Edgerton as Nathaniel Nash, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeremy Irons, Ciarán Hinds, and Joely Richardson.
Francis Lawrence will direct "Red Sparrow". He has previously worked with Jennifer Lawrence directing three of the four films in the Hunger Games film series. Justin Haythe wrote the script of the spy thriller film that will hit the on November 10.
