The New York Giants are reportedly making some big movement on their roster next season. And recent reports are saying that they are going after free agent running back LeGarrette Blount from the Super Bowl champ New England Patriots. Will he perfectly fit into the Giants offense?
The New York Giants are coming off a decent performance last season. They managed to enter the playoffs by clinching the fifth seed in the NFC division by virtue of an 11-5 win-loss record. But, they were booted out by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Playoffs ending their run in the postseason.
Many are saying that the New York Giants offense is a big letdown for them in that match as they were overwhelmed by the Green Bay Packers 38-13. And true enough, their stats last season show their flaw in offense as they are only averaging 19.4 points (26th) and 330.7 total yards (25th) per game. And now, latest news are saying that they are looking to stack up that area next season.
According to CBSSports, free agent LeGarrette Blount could be the offensive player that the New York Giants are just looking for. From the looks of it, the New England Patriots appear to have no plans of re-signing the 30-year old running back. The Pats just recently signed Rex Burkhead to a one-year, $3 million contract making the return of Blount more intriguing.
Aside from that, the New England Patriots also pay a visit to another free agent running back Adrian Peterson yesterday that could hint they are ready to move on with LeGarrette Blount in the team. With things looking that way, the New York Giants could take the opportunity to lock up Blount and get his services while the Patriots seem to be building the team without him.
In seven season in the NFL, LeGarrette Blount has registered 5,122 rushing yards and 49 rushing touchdowns in 100 games he has played. He is also instrumental to the New England Patriots winning the Super Bowl last season. And his experience in a championship stage could well very useful for the New York Giants.
Will the New York Giants take a risk and acquire LeGarrette Blount?
