Man Killed by Amtrak Train While Taking Photos on Tracks Identified as Musician Jeff Ray

A man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Auburn, Wash. has been identified as musician Jeff Ray.

Ray, who performed in Las Vegas as a member of the "Jersey Boys" band, was killed after a train from Portland headed for Seattle struck him on Saturday, according to a report by KIRO 7.

Ray died on-site, according to fire officials who spoke with KIRO 7. The accident occurred near C Street Southwest and Eighth Street, at around 3:30 p.m.

The Auburn Fire Department stated that the man was sitting on the tracks while his girlfriend took pictures of him.

Suddenly, the Amtrak Cascades Train barreled onto the tracks, killing 42-year-old Ray.

Immediately after the incident happened, authorities stopped the train and closed off the tracks. An initial investigation was performed on-site, while some 130 passengers on board the train were transferred to buses for the final leg of their trips.

No one on board was hurt, according to CNN.

Ray played guitar nightly in "Jersey Boys," and was in the Seattle area performing with the Top 40 cover band The Jone$.

Music director of "Jersey Boys" Keith Thompson expressed his gratitude for Ray to the Las Vegas Sun on Monday.

"We at 'Jersey Boys' are in shock, total shock, about Jeff's death," Thompson said. "He was a complete and total delight to work with and be around, and was one of the most positive, upbeat, joyous people I've known in the business."
