Taliban Claims Responsibility For Death Of NATO Solider In Afghanistan

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the death of a NATO soldier in an attack on an international military base in Afghanistan on Monday, CBS News reported.

According to Afghan and international military officials, a group of armed militants and suicide bombers attacked the base in eastern Kandahar province. After a suicide bomber detonated an SUV full of explosives near the gate, the militants flooded the base.

Javid Faisal, a spokesman for the provincial governor, the U.S.-led International Assistance Force-Afghansitan (ISAF) lost one soldier. In addition, all nine assailants were killed in the attack.

The ISAF also confirmed the death of their soldier, however they did not say which nation was based at the compound or disclose the nationality of the fallen troop. They described it as a "complex attack with a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, enemy forces with suicide vests and small arms fire."

They also said the attack caused some damage to the outer perimeter of the base.

CBS News reported that the Taliban, who has increased their fight against Afghan and international forces, said they were responsible for the attack.
