After a video submerged depicting two alleged terrorists with plans of attacking during the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in Russia, the United States has offered naval and air support to assist in keeping the city and visitors safe, Reuters reported.
The Pentagon released a statement saying United States military commanders are "conducting prudent planning and preparations" in the case of any assistance needed by Russia during the Olympic games, according to Reuters.
The U.S. military stated there are two ships in the Black Sea in case naval assistance is required in light of the terrorist threats to disrupt the games, Reuters reported.
The video released earlier feature two men who claim to be part of a terrorist organization which has already carried out suicide attacks in the southern areas of Russia, according to Reuters.
The men wore explosive belts and said Russian President Vladimir Putin was in for a surprise and would receive a "present," as would all the Olympic visitors, Reuters reported.
On Sunday, U.S. military released plans for evacuating Americans from the Sochi Olympic Games in case of an emergency, according to Reuters.
"The United States has offered its full support to the Russian government as it conducts security preparations for the Winter Olympics," Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said in a statement, Reuters reported.
"Air and naval assets, to include two Navy ships in the Black Sea, will be available if requested for all manner of contingencies in support of - and in consultation with - the Russian government," Kirby added, according to Reuters.
Though planning is taking place and the U.S. has already made their helping hand known to Russia, a roadblock being cited by American officials is Russia's historic reluctance to allow foreign military forces, especially American military forces, onto their soil, Reuters reported.
Though the Sochi Olympic Game stadiums have been equipped with "formidable security measures" the State Department is still advising Americans who are attending the winter games to be aware of any potential terrorist threat and to be vigilant of any suspicious activity, according to Reuters.
The U.S. is also worried that due to the extreme security measures being taken at the site of the Olympic games, attacks are likely to occur outside of the venues, Reuters reported.
