The man carjacked by Boston bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev spoke Friday about the experience.
"Danny," a 26-year-old Chinese entrepreneur, detailed the harrowing story to the Boston Globe.
The carjacking occurred around 10:30 p.m. on April 18 in an Allston neighborhood. Danny sat in his Mercedes and answered a text message when a sedan suddenly screeched to a stop behind him.
A man approached the car and tapped on the window. Danny, unable to hear what the man said, rolled his window down.
At that point the man, later identified as 26-year-old Tamerlan, reached into Danny's car, unlocked the door and pulled it open. He produced a handgun.
"Don't be stupid," he told Danny as he climbed into the vehicle.
Tamerlan admitted to his frightened passenger that he was responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings earlier in the week, and that he'd killed a policeman earlier that night in Cambridge.
They then drove through Boston for 90 minutes. Dzhokhar, Tamerlan's younger brother, trailed behind in a second car. Later they stopped in East Watertown and moved heavy objects into the Mercedes.
Danny thought it was luggage.
Dzhokhar then joined his brother in the Mercedes, and Tamerlan took over the duties of driving. The brothers took $45 cash from Danny and visited an ATM to withdraw more from his account.
According to Danny, the Tsarnaevs mentioned something about New York during the course of their travel.
They eventually pulled into a Shell gas station. Dzhokhar went inside to pay, and Tamerlan set his gun down to toy with the navigation system. Danny took a chance and bolted from the car.
He sprinted into a nearby Mobil gas station and took refuge. The clerk called police and the brothers sped off in the Mercedes.
"It was very scary at that moment," he said. "For me, I'm so lucky."
The Tsarnaevs engaged police later in the wee hours of the morning. Tamerlan died in the ensuing gunfight. Dzhokhar was believed to have been wounded, but he managed to escape.
Police found and took Dzhokhar into custody later that night. He was seriously wounded and taken to a hospital.
Authorities transferred Dzhokhar on Friday to a federal medical center at Fort Levens, Massachusetts.
