Jonah Hill recently told Howard Stern on his show he took a paycut in "The Wolf of Wall Street" just because he really wanted to play the role of Donnie Azoff in the jaw-dropping new Martin Scorsese film, Yahoo Movies reported.
Hill reported he was paid $60,000 for his role as Donnie Azoff during the seven month shoot. In the film, Donnie Azoff is the sidekick to Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who was paid $10 million for his role, half of what he was paid to play Jay Gatsby, Yahoo reported.
Scorsese's nearly three hour film consisted of plenty demoralizing scenes which received some negative feedback from critics, but also gave Hill another Oscar nod for supporting role, according to Yahoo.
Based on Hill's net worth of $30 million, the $60,000 was an extremely low number but according to Hill, he didn't mind because he has been waiting to play a role like this in a very long time, according to TheWrap.com.
In a way of showing respect, Hill is the only actor who has worked with Scorsese who doesn't call him Marty, TheWrap reported. This is because Hill says he looks up and admires the director and does not pretend to be familiar with his genius.
According to TheWrap, Hill also says Scorsese is his "favorite artist of all time" and that he was awed by the directors ability to put so much "wild, excessive" scenes on screen.
With the extremely low paycheck aside, Hill's role in the movie got him his second Oscar nomination after receiving a nod from the academy for his role in "Moneyball" co-starring with Brad Pitt, Yahoo reported.
Hill is now working on the sequel for "21 Jump Street" with Channing Tatum, called "22 Jump Street," Yahoo reported. He is also going to be a voice in "The Lego Movie" where he and Tatum will voice the Green Lantern and Superman.
