The Cleveland Browns reportedly conducted a second interview with Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine on Tuesday. Still without a coach, the Browns are believed to be eying Pettine, Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak.
"Buffalo's defensive coordinator had his second interview with Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner on Tuesday night, a person familiar with the Browns' plans told the Associated Press," Tom Withers of the Associated Press wrote Tuesday night. "The meeting took place in Mobile, Ala., site of the Senior Bowl, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team is not commenting during its search. ...
"Pettine had impressed the Browns during his first interview last week, and club officials flew to meet with him again - a strong sign of their interest."
The meeting lasted four hours. Pettine is the first coaching candidate to be interviewed twice, although no deal appears imminent. The Browns are scheduled to interview another candidate on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who was believed to be Cleveland's top choice to replace ex-coach Rob Chudzinski, reportedly withdrew his name from consideration for the job on Tuesday.
With a dwindling list of potential coaches, Pettine joins Quinn and Munchak as the most likely coaching candidates. Quinn reportedly made a strong impression on the Browns' front office during his first interview, although his level of interest in taking over in Cleveland is uncertain.
Munchak, who has head coaching experience, also interviewed with the Browns.
