Apple just updated its line-up of iPod last Thursday and with this, the company removed its iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle. It can be recalled that these two iPod devices did not operate on the iOS which is the software being used by iPhones.
Reports claimed that Apple has its reason why they decided to remove their iPod Nano and Shuffle it has something to do with simplifying their iPod lineup. With this, the company decided to come up with just two models of iPod Touch which will be offered at only $199.
According to Business Insider, the iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle have already been removed from the website and online store of Apple. Originally, the said iPod Touch which will replace the two devices is an iPhone but with no cellular service. It was also reported that the new device from Apple will feature a 32 GB of storage for $199 while its 128 GB will be offered at $299.
It was said that a lot of consumers already predicted the elimination of iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle since the two only played music and nothing more. Since their release, Apple did not even make updates or improvements in the said devices. The two were introduced to the public in the year 2005.
When Apple released their iPhone devices, the company already claimed that these devices might cause the decline of the standalone music players. The iPhone comes with a music application and during the early days of the device, it was even called the "iPod phone".
It can be recalled that when the iPhone was first released, its music application was called iPod. Now, most people are now using their smartphones to listen to music, not a separate device like what the iPod does.
However, Apple's iPod became significant in its history most especially its original hardware. Apple was aware that the iPod was the first device the company made that was considered more consumer electronics than the computer. In fact, device paved way for the iPhone.
Aside from that, the iPod Touch is so far the best-selling iPod in the market that is why its contribution can't just be dismissed. Moreover, the name iPod is not being phased out yet since the newest audio products of Apple are called HomePod and AirPods.
Besides the above-mentioned reason, Apple might be phasing the iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle out is that because they do not have Bluetooth. Moreover, the two devices do not even support Apple Music which is the streaming service for the company's video and audio.
