'Kingdom Hearts 3' Release Date: Developer Explains Why PS4 Next-Gen Tech Is Delaying Game's Launch: 'They've Gone Too Far'

"Kingdom Hearts 3" developer Tetsuya Nomura claims the technology found in the PlayStation 4 is making it increasingly difficult to complete quality games without being thrown into a series of hurdles.

Nomura recently spoke with Weekly Famitsu (via Kotaku) for a feature where developers shared their honest opinions of the next-gen technology. Considering a "Kingdom Hearts" title hasn't been released for a console since 2006, the development team is under a lot of pressure for KH3 to live up to the hype.

"Looking at the PS4, I thought 'they've gone too far.' I wish they would just let us off the hook," Nomura told Famitsu. "For the player, having a game that's "thoroughly made" makes them excited with anticipation, but for a developer, it's a hurdle we have to overcome."

"The number of things we have to do keeps increasing and if we keep trying to expand as far as it will go, we'll never be finished," Nomura added. "I think we're going to end up being faced with the choice of what to keep and what to give up on [for Kingdom Hearts III]."

Nomura told Famitsu their was an overwhelming positive response from the announcement of an in-development KH3, but he has the difficult task to make sure fans of the franchise are "satisfied" with the title once its released.

"There have been a lot of different consoles in the past, but I feel that this one is the biggest mountain we've had to climb yet, in a good way," Nomura said.

Another Square Enix employee believes there should be more "transparency" with their titles. Square Enix's America and Europe CEO Phil Rogers told MCVUK they have reached out their fan base and listen to desires from their games.

"When we look at how we take Square Enix forward in this era we have to adopt openness and transparency," Rogers said. "I think our games, brands and us as a company must talk openly, must engage and must be true to our promises. Of course many will point out that there's risk in doing this but if we can do this we'll capture hearts and minds, earn trust and command loyalty and premium."

There is not set release date for "Kingdom Hearts 3".
