Motorist Driving the Wrong Way On I-5 Crashes Into Washington State Trooper's Vehicle

A motorist on Interstate 5 crashed into the patrol car of a Washington State trooper in Tukwila on Friday morning, according to a report by the Seattle Times.

Trooper Chris Webb sustained minor injuries after the woman, who was driving the wrong way on the freeway, struck his vehicle.

Police told the Times that the woman was driving south in the northbound lanes, after reportedly getting on the freeway in Seattle's downtown neighborhood.

Soon after the driver entered I-5, eyewitnesses spied her driving the wrong way and called police to the scene. Webb said troopers went looking for her shortly afterward.

The woman, whose identity has been withheld, was a Tacoma resident thought to be in her 20s.

Her SUV hit the police officer's cruiser just off of Highway 518, the Times reported. Another law enforcement official following the woman purposely struck her automobile using the push bars on his front bumper to stop her from advancing further.

Police are looking into whether the woman was drunk at the time. Webb said the woman smelled like alcohol, and seemed to be intoxicated when she was initially interrogated by investigators on the scene.

"We have probable cause to arrest her for DUI," Webb told the Times.

She's slated to be charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment and drunken driving.
