A 14-year-old girl was forced to become pregnant by her adoptive mother in the UK because she wanted to have more children and couldn't have them herself or adopt, so instead forced her daughter to inseminate herself with donor sperm, according to reports.
High Court Judge Peter Jackson's ruling said the woman at the center of the case, who had undergone sterilization for health reasons, according to the Guardian, was prevented from adopting another child. The mother, whose name was not given but only described as an American divorcee living in the UK, already had three adopted children.
The 14-year-old teenager had a miscarriage the first time she fell pregnant, but was inseminated six more times before she finally had a baby boy at age 17, according to the report. The judge said the mother acted in "a wicked and selfish way" and is now serving a five-year jail term for child cruelty.
The plot was uncovered after hospital midwives became suspicious in July 2011 after the girl gave birth. They described the mother as being too "pushy and insensitive" and refused to let her daughter breast-feed the baby boy so they would not get attached. The hospital alerted the authorities and the teenage daughter and baby boy were taken into foster care.
In his ruling, the judge quoted the teenager as saying said she was shocked by the suggestion, but thought, "If I do this ... maybe she will love me more."
"My mum is a very determined person and she does her best not to let anything get in her way if she wants it," the teenager added, according to the Associated Press.
The mother had isolated the family, home-schooling her children. The adoptive father of the older kids did not know where they lived and had not seen them for over 10 years, according to Fox News.
